Time for a new Idea. Time to limit the cumulative time politicians spend in Washington, D.C.
The latest scandals with Democrat congressmen Rangel and Massa have once again highlighted the corruption in Washington. Americans are frustrated with Washington, D.C. They should be. The corruption and arrogance is out of control. Nancy Pelosi promised to “Drain the Swamp.” The thing is that neither party can drain the swamp and still leave all the same old career politicians in place.
Limiting a Politician's Time in Washington
Here’s a new idea (below) on how to eliminate the career corruption that lifetime politicians seem addicted to.
16 Years and You Go Home.
I’m not talking about a limit of 16 years in the U.S. House or 16 years in the Senate (a bit hard to divide a 6 year term into 16 years). What I propose is a 16-year limit on the time an elected politician can spend serving the people in Washington D.C. They can spend a few years in the House, a term in the Senate and maybe even a term in the White House. No matter, the limit is 16 years for the cumulative lifetime years a politician can serve in the House, the Senate or the White House.
To clarify, a few examples:
Jean gets elected to the U.S. House and serves four two-year terms. She only has 8 years left in D.C. no matter what. She can serve a maximum of four more two-year-terms in congress.
Jean might decide after those 8 years to run for the U.S. Senate. Fine. She can only serve one 6-year term if she wins. She also would no longer be eligible to run for President or Vice President of the United States because she would not be able to complete her term with the two years she would have left.
Ron runs for the U.S. Senate and wins. He serves two six-year terms. 12 years gone. He can run for President, but may only serve one term. If he wins the White House, he’d hit his 16 years at the end of the first term and then go home.
Getting the idea? If Sarah runs for President having served as a Governor, her time as governor would not count (obviously) as time spent in Washington. The idea is to limit the time in Washington. End the corruption that comes with entrenched lifetime politicians. Give the government back to the people. Let people serve for a while, and then go home. That’s the way it was intended.
So if Sarah runs and wins, she can serve two four-year terms in the White House. Yes, she would still have 8 years left that she could serve in the House or Senate if she so desired. 16 years and you’re done, no matter what.
If we could ever get term limits for the U.S House or the Senate, you would still have people just switching chambers to stay in power. This idea eliminates the career politician. Period.

The GOP seems poised to retake the U.S. House in November. However, nothing should be taken for granted. Can the GOP also take the U.S. Senate? Perhaps it is time for another 1994-style Contract with America. It would need to be simple, memorable, and resonate with Conservative Americans and Tea Partiers. Below you’ll find my suggestion.
The 2010 Conservative American Contract With America
Trade wind for nuclear power! Let the private sector figure out if wind and solar energy can be profitable. Get the government out of the way so more nuclear power plants and clean-coal power plants can be built all around the nation right now!
Trade solar for clean coal! Offer incentives to construct these new power plants so they can supply the energy needed for a strong economy.
Drill Baby, Drill! Drill here. Drill now. Right now. And Drill any government agency or special interest group that tries to get in the way. Offshore drilling approved now so we can harvest oil off our shores instead of watching as the Mexican and Chinese governments do it!
That’s it. A simple three-step plan to economic recovery and to restoring America’s greatness! This is what Conservative Republicans should run on and promise to accomplish if given control of the chambers. If the President vetoes the items, Republicans must ask for control of the White House in 2012 and offer a Conservative Republican candidate who will make it happen.
Share this plan with your friends, email it, facebook it, twitter it,… let’s bring this country back to a position of economic strength. We can do it!
The point here is to offer a SIMPLE, understandable and honest plan Americans will support. No 2,700 page plan of bull to save the health of the nation! Just simple Conservative American values in action. Remember, more than 40% of Americans consider themselves Conservatives.
Details. Sure, we can provide details. The marketing message must be simple however. For those who want the details, they should be provided online. Details under reducing taxes, for example, can also include agreement to reduce the size of government…specific ideas for entire departments that can be eliminated or privatized. Time for D.C. to tighten its belt!
Why not be bold (Americans might faint if the GOP actually tried it) and end the practice of unionizing government workers? Why let the Progressive-Socialist-Democrats (and yes, we should CALL THEM THAT) get away with institutionalizing their political party? Why allow them to make themselves the Official State Religion? My plan, the Political Donations Choice Act (also not 2,700 pages) can be found here. America needs to stop and think about things like this. The Progressive-Socialist-Democrats have managed to use tax dollars to create bigger and more powerful labor unions which give money only to them. They use tax dollars to fund their own political agenda. Your tax dollars pay the government workers. Some of those wages go to the union. Most of those dues go to the Progressive-Socialist-Democrats. That’s why I call them the Offiical State Religion. It’s just not right, but they do it anyway. Time for all of that to stop. My plan would do just that.

The Official Obama Administration Scandals list is 24 pages long. It contains documented information (dates, times, sources and links) to more than one thousand different items. That’s a “Scandal Free” Start??!!”
Now, we call it the “Scandals” list only to give it a name. It contains not only scandals, but also lies, broken promises, flip-flops and gaffes from the Obama Administration. It’s hard to keep up! This is what columnist Walter Shapiro calls a “Scandal Free White House!” He even wonders aloud at Politics Daily, “Is Obama Very Ethical or Very Lucky?”
What Planet is Shapiro living on? Surely he must be kidding, right? Nope. His justification for the conclusion?

“he is not brooding during secret cigarette breaks about special prosecutors, congressional investigators or relentless investigative reporters. In contrast to Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and maybe even George H.W. Bush, Obama so far has presided over an administration almost entirely free from major public scandal.”
Talk about missing the point. No special prosecutors or investigators? Fine. Gee, that couldn’t have anything to do with the progressive democrats controlling both the house and the senate, could it? No relentless investigative reporters? The reporters, as Shapiro knows well, tend only to investigate Republican administrations. It can’t be a scandal if it involves someone they agree with (work for?) like Obama.
Mr. Shaprio, sir, how about the biggest scandal in our nation’s history? This man is trying to change the very fabric of this nation from the touch, the feel of cotton to some type of burlap socialist weave! Don’t like that one?
How about his continued support of the hoax of man-made global warming? He may not have a sex scandal or an employee breaking the law (there is some question already that Jim Messina may have done just that if he offered a politician a job in exchange for not running against an Obama-loved candidate), but these items are small in comparison to destroying the greatest nation on earth.
Shapiro calls Van Jones no big deal. Oh, and that thing with Tom Daschle…no problem there. That’s just Glenn Beck stuff. The lies? The hypocrisy? Flip-flops and broken promises? Nah, that’s nothing.
Give us a break! There are so many scandals we filled a 400+ page book after just one year!
People like Shapiro, with their heads in the sand, will only empower the progressive-Socialists to continue their aggressive power grabs despite the loud disagreement of most Americans. It’s ridiculous for Shapiro to consider this a Scandal-Free administration.

Oh that Mrs. Nancy Pelosi. She promised to get in their and clean up what she always loved to call the “Republican culture of corruption.” Ha! She finally gets rid of Chuck Rangel as chair of the House Ways & Means committee and she wanted to pick another loser to take his place!
While Democrat Sander Levin now has been selected, it was only after a Progressive Revolt against Pelosi’s pick of Pete Stark. Earlier reports at Bloomberg and other sites said Stark would sleep on it before deciding. He didn’t get the chance.
John Fund at the Wall Street Journal knows why…
“Republicans will be disappointed. They were looking forward to making a fundraising poster boy of Mr. Stark, a dyspeptic 78-year-old from California’s Bay Area. Said one K Street observer yesterday when the appointment seemed a done deal: “He will be a dream for Republicans fundraising to take over control of Congress. He is so volatile and unpredictable, the business community will contribute if there’s any chance to stop him from keeping the gavel.”
Over the years, Mr. Stark has called various GOP colleagues “fruitcake” and “whore for the insurance industry,” as well as accusing former Rep. J.C. Watts of fathering all his children “out of wedlock.” In 2007, he said President George W. Bush was amused by seeing the heads of U.S. soldiers getting blown off. He later apologized for those remarks on the House floor. He also narrowly escaped an ethics inquiry over claiming a homestead tax deduction for his Maryland residence even though he is registered to vote in California. A highly critical investigator’s report noted that Mr. Stark was “extremely belligerent and frequently insulted [Office of Congressional Ethics] staff members interviewing him.”
Such high examples of fine quality people ol’ Mrs. Nancy has found to clean up all that corruption.

Americans should not be forced to give donations to a political party, especially a party they don’t even agree with! Yet this happens every day in the United States. That’s why I think It’s time for what I will call the Political Donations Choice Act.
If you purchased a car made in the U.S.A., you have indirectly made a donation to help Socialist-Democrats win elections. Part of the price of that car is to pay the work force. Fair enough. Part of those wages are taken from employees in the United Auto Workers union and given instead to the union, which in turn uses its money to elect and reelect Democrats. It’s just a fact.
You have a choice however. You don’t have to purchase that car. Perhaps you could buy an import or look for a non-union made, solar-powered Dr. Suess-style Crank-Car if you wish.
Sometimes political “donations” are forced however. Sometimes you have no choice. That is wrong. We know that Democrats are all about being pro-choice and letting people make decisions about their own well being, so how could they argue with simply giving people a choice?
For example, let’s say you love cars and have always wanted to help make them. You’re a Conservative American who disagrees strongly with the Liberal-Progressive-Democrat agenda. You finally get that dream job working in an auto plant and you find out you must join the union. The only choice you have is take the job and join the Democrat-supporting Union, or don’t take the job at all. It is, in effect, a forced political contribution.
What if you’re a newspaper reporter? You want the job? You join the union. The union gets part of your pay and gives it to the Democrats. If you want to be a reporter at that newspaper, you don’t have a choice. You are forced to give to a political party you disagree with. Tough luck for you.
How about working for the state or federal government? You have visions of helping the people of this great nation in your role as a government employee. You know you have to keep your politics to yourself, and that’s fine with you. You want the job. However, you also have to join AFSCME, a Democrat-party organization which will take some of your pay and use it to pad the pockets of Democrat politicians you disagree with.
Okay, you get the idea. Some political donations are forced. That’s not right. That’s not what our Founding Fathers would have envisioned. We now have a system where a tiny group of American workers (just 9% are in unions) has a huge amount of political power through the forced contributions of its membership. It is institutionalized and legally required support of the Democrat party! That is wrong.

That’s the basics of what I propose. It’s time Republicans stand up and quit allowing Democrats a free pass on using taxpayer dollars to create more Democrat jobs for Democrat union workers who will pay Democrat union dues which will go to elect even more Democrats!
The Democrats have stomped all over weak-kneed Republicans for years. Americans are fed up. Tea parties are taking place. NOW is the time to act boldly.
It’s time to take steps to prevent either party from using taxpayer dollars to make itself stronger. The Democrat party has taken over the school system. It has taken over the courts with radical judges. It runs the US House, the Senate and the White House. They continue to do all they can to force more people into Democrat Unions to fund their own election campaigns.
The Democrat party has become the official State Religion. It’s time for forced political contributions to end.
