Conservative Ayotte Standing Up for Veterans

Republicans John Boehner and Paul Ryan got their way in the U.S. House this week when that body passed a budget deal that wipes out the first real cuts Washington has made in years. For no apparent reason, John Boehner went off on a tangent (his Howard Dean screaming moment) blasting Conservative Americans, all the while Paul Ryan stood in the back smiling.

Apparently the budget deal’s ride in the U.S. Senate won’t be as easy. A number of senators from both parties are expressing concern about the plan’s reductions in scheduled increases for military retirees.

Here’s the deal… the federal government employees don’t have to put up with any such cuts, so some senators are wondering why the military retirees are singled out. Fox “Oh look, another blonde news anchor” News is reporting Conservative American Kelly Ayotte is joining protesters against the bill…

“The provision generating heated opposition from Veterans of Foreign Wars and allied lawmakers would cut retirement benefits for military retirees by $6 billion over 10 years. “It’s unacceptable to single out our men and women in uniform in this way,” said Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., who on Monday is joining New Hampshire veterans groups to protest the bill… Ayotte and other senators are rallying opposition against the military retiree provision. The bill includes a 1 percent reduction in cost-of-living benefits for many retirees under 62 years old. It also requires most federal civilian employees to pay more toward their pensions — however, that provision affects only new hires, while the change for military retirees could affect those currently serving.”

Ayotte’s family comes from a military background so it is no surprise she is willing to stand up and fight for them.
