Is Palin Pro-Choice?

We are big Sarah Palin fans.  You all know that.  However, we are realistic about it and honest about it.  We know that the way things are worded can sometimes have a cost for a politician.

Some are saying Sarah Palin considered having an abortion when she found out her son, Trig, would have Downs Syndrome.  They base it on a comment she made at the Pro-Life dinner in Evansville last week. Some think she came off sounding Pro-Choice! Her conservative popularity would dwindle if she began to make conservatives question her positions on issues.

Let me ask you if you think Sarah Palin handled her Pro-Life talk as well as she could have. Did she word things the best way she could have?  Was she just being honest about the logical questions anyone would have in that situation as to one’s ability to raise a child with Downs Syndrome? Questioning her own ability out loud…is she paying a bit of a price for that now?  Did she handle this well?   For the discussion, let me present to you this from the UK Guardian:

“There, just for a fleeting moment, I thought, I knew - nobody knows me here. Nobody would ever know,” Palin said. Avoiding use of the word “abortion”, she said that for “a fleeting moment”, she considered her options. “I had to ask myself, ‘Was I going to walk the walk or was I just going to talk the talk’,” Palin told her audience. “It is easy to think maybe of trying to change the circumstances.” Palin’s remarks, during her first political appearance outside Alaska since she served as John McCain’s running mate, marked a change in tone for the strenuously anti-abortion politician and were greeted cautiously. Elizabeth Shipp, political director of Naral Pro-Choice America, told the Washington Post: “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say governor Palin sounds remarkably pro-choice.”

Is this a change in tone for Palin? Could she be something different than what we think?  Greta Van Susteren’s Democrat husband, John Coale, says of Palin: she is a “fascinating person” who is “definitely not what the right thinks or the left thinks.”

We’re all human.  We all face difficult times and decisions.  Probably most of us have considered, however briefly, some pretty stupid ways of handling those difficult times when we were in them.  Is that all this was?  Is that all Palin was saying?  Or did she send a message that she is not the Pro-Life Conservative American many think she is? The Commercial Appeal in Memphis is asking the same thing.

Sarah is not pro-choice. That is ridiculous. Will her honesty hurt her like it did Miss California or will it help her like it did Miss California. Sarah’s convictions are strong and I believe her honesty in that she is truly pro-life. Will the libs run with it, probably. Let’s just hope the conservataives don’t.
