President Obama has already Rumsfeld-ed Afghanistan! Given the opportunity to correct his error, will President Obama listen to his generals this time? Both political parties are wondering.

CNS News reported this week that…

“President Obama’s (democrat) National Security Adviser Jim Jones told CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday that “more security” in Afghanistan may mean more U.S. troops on the ground. I want to be clear on this — I did not say that troop strength is off the table for discussion,” Jones told CBS’s Bob Schieffer. He added that the war in Afghanistan “is not just about troop strength,” nor is it just about Afghanistan: “It’s about Pakistan and what is going on there. We won’t rule anything out,” Jones said later with regard to troop strength.

Drino (democrat or republican in name only) Lindsey Graham said:

“My message to my Democratic colleagues is that we made mistakes in Iraq,” Graham said. “Let’s not ‘Rumsfeld’ Afghanistan. Let’s not do this thing on the cheap. Let’s have enough combat power and engagement across the board to make sure we are successful, and quite frankly, we’ve got a lot of ground to make up.” Rumsfeld was heavily criticized for “playing politics” after the 2003 Iraq invasion by not sending in more troops to secure the area.

Graham needs to pay more attention. He should read ConservativeAmerican.org to keep up with the world. If he did, he would have read on February 28th:

“The guy who was always against troop surges, now has his own. His generals asked him for 30,000 more troops in Afghanistan. He said no. He agreed to give them about half of what they wanted, sending in another 17,000 troops. ”

At that point, Obama pulled what Graham calls a “Rumsfeld.” He already Rumsfeld-ed the war in Afghanistan! Our article continued…

“…This is a failure in his duties as Commander in Chief. The role of a non-military Commander in Chief, as our great nation has, is to decide what role you want the military to play, give them the tools they say they need to get the job done, and then get out of the way and let them win for you. As Commander in Chief, when your generals are not getting the job done for you, you get rid of them and bring new ones in, starting the process over. If Lyndon Johnson taught us anything, it was that presidents should not claim to know more about how to fight a war than the generals at their command. By second guessing his own generals, Obama demonstrates he did not learn the lesson from Johnson. If he is going to call all the shots instead of his generals, doesn’t that make this “Obama’s War?”
