Obama’s Reality Check Needs a Reality Check!

The White House “Reality Check” website still is claiming there won’t be any cuts in Medicare! On their home page they have the image you see here and a link to a video which continues to claim there won’t be cuts, only the elimination of waste. Aha!….That makes sense. They won’t actually be making cuts in the things they cut because they have decided they are waste, not cuts. Following that?

As we point out in a Scandal dated 7/22/9 on the Official Obama Administration Scandals List, The New York Times also isn’t buying this “reality check.” The Medicare Cuts the Obamacare Nightmare call for could indeed cut services in rural and teaching hospitals. The NY Times is anything but a conservative newspaper. I thought all the attacks were coming from nasty conservatives?

(The NY Times reports) experts tell them “some of his (Obama’s) points were debatable. - “For example, with the Obama-proposed new cost-control agency, the times notes: “Mr. Obama said: “It’s not going to reduce Medicare benefits. What it’s going to do is to change how those benefits are delivered so that they’re more efficient.” Hospitals say the cuts could indeed cut services in some rural areas and from teaching hospitals, which receive extra payments because of higher costs.

In the Scandal dated 8/3/9, the sources are CNN and MSNBC, also not known to be conservative news outlets. This story points out even the supposedly non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (or CBO) says the administration is planning Medicare Cuts!

From CNN July 28th comes this Obama quote: “”Nobody is talking about trying to change Medicare benefits,” he said. “What we do want is to eliminate some of the waste that is being paid for out of the Medicare trust fund.” - - Then, from MicroSoft-NBC today comes this statement about Medicare Cuts: “Furthermore the CBO said an administration-backed independent council of medical experts to recommend Medicare cuts would only yield modest savings.” — So it seems there will be Medicare CUTS after all! UPDATE 8/8/9: Washington Post: “In his weekly Internet and radio address, the president pushed back against claims “that reform will…cut Medicaid,…That’s simply not true.”

In another Scandal dated 7/22/9, we point out the Obama Administration has money budgeted to give to doctors to “ease” them into the fact they won’t be getting paid as much from Medicare. Let’s see….not paying doctors as much from Medicare, isn’t that a cut in Medicare? It’s not a cut in benefits but it is a cut in payment. This cut will make doctors, clinics and hospitals less likely to want to treat Medicare and Medicaid patients because they won’t make any money doing so. If that happens, this also would indeed a cut in Medicare services.

So what of the Congressional Budget Office’s conclusion that the House bill does add to the deficit? Democrats and the Obama administration argue that the $245 billion included for doctors — the approximate 10-year cost of adjusting Medicare reimbursement rates so physicians don’t face big annual pay cuts — does not have to be counted in the overall cost of the health care bill. Their only-in-Washington reasoning is that they already decided to exempt it from congressional “pay-as-you-go” rules that require new programs to be paid for. In other words, it doesn’t have to be paid for because they decided it doesn’t have to be paid for“!!!!!

The President is a habitual liar. On that same date, he also lied saying his plan would not add to the deficit. The CBO says it will (see previous paragraph) and that the “skyrocketing costs of Medicare and Medicaid” were the biggest driving force behind the deficit. That is a silly claim. Obama’s huge deficit is quadruple what the Bush deficit was (another broken promise…he had said he would cut the deficit in half) because of the huge sum the government has spent to combat the recession and financial crisis, combined with a sharp decline in tax revenues. Paying for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan also is a major factor. Those are the major causes, not Medicare.

The silly video from a nervous Robert Kocher of the National Economic Council does nothing to answer any of these issues.

The democrat-friendly Politico website also says there are Medicare cuts:

Critics say the proposed $380 billion Medicare cuts in the House bill — including cuts to the privately administered Medicare Advantage program — will lead to long waits for care, doctors dropping patients and doctors deciding if their older patients “are worth the cost,” as one TV and Web ad from the 60 Plus Association (AARP) warned.
