Yesterday, we offered you Obama’s Top Ten Lies list. Today, we break down the President’s top ten broken promises on 2009!

Each Day this week, we’ll feature a new Obama Top Ten List! Check in each day for the new list. We had plenty to choose from in the broken promise category. To get it down to ten, we had to drop items from the list like his broken promises to the gay community, his broken promise to be tough on North Korea, his broken word to go through bills line by line, his betrayal of his anti-life, anti-family supporters by not signing a new abortion rights deal as his “first act” as promised (he still hasn’t done it!) and his broken promise to the army to make sure soldiers would spend twice as much time at home as deployed. Those are big ones! The ten below are a bit bigger.

10. I’ll Close Gitmo in my First Year! - Or not! White House Counsel Greg Craig was the fall guy for this mistake. In the rush to close Guantanamo, Obama is simply releasing some terrorists back to the countries they came from. Others are in “Rehab” in Saudi Arabia where the country says it “lost” 20 of them! He’s trying to bring still others to Illinois. Even Senate Democrat Harry Reider told the Half-Black Prince he doesn’t want the terrorists on U.S. soil! The other point that needs to be made is that Obama still has a Gitmo-style prison open at Bagram Air Force Base in Iraq. Will the hypocrite-in-chief close that one too?
9. Broken Promise that he Won’t Require People to Buy Health Insurance - NelsonGuirado.com reports: “Asked if Obama would be seen as reversing himself if he were to endorse an individual mandate after clashing with Clinton on the issue, (Obama spokeswoman Kavita) Patel dismissed the concern. ‘He has not said he is opposed to it,’ Patel told ABC News. Patel said he had voiced his disagreement with having that be a part of his health care plan last year. But he is not opposed to the idea itself.’ However, Guirado points out Obama’s quote: “We’ve got a philosophical difference which we’ve debated repeatedly, and that is that Senator Clinton believes the only way to achieve universal health care is to force everybody to purchase it, and my belief is the reason that people don’t have it is not because they don’t want it, but because they can’t afford it.” (Barack Obama, CNN/Univision Democrat Presidential Debate, Austin, TX, 2/21/08)” - So he was for it before he was against it! John Kerry, anyone?

8. Broken Promise to Bring Troops Home! - Cynthia Tucker at the Atlanta Journal says “It’s Obama’s War Now.” From Conservative Wisdom: “Obama’s promise on October 27, 2007, to bring the troops home as one of his first actions in the Oval Office is obviously a broken promise. The left-wing peace activist arm of liberalism is finally speaking up. As Obama escalates the war efforts in Afghanistan, the anti-war crowd is joining Democratic members of Congress in condemning their dear leader’s actions.” Even Michael Moore-on is angry at Obama.
7. Broken Promise to be Bipartisan! -Robert A. George of NBC News in Dallas-Fort Worth writes, “…it is in Obama’s biggest promise that he has failed — that of bringing a change of tone to Washington. Sure, bipartisanship is a two-way street. The White House can claim that congressional Republicans haven’t been eager to work with Obama on big issues…Still, a lot of the blame for increased Washington rancor belongs at the feet of the administration. Obama’s overt partisanship has been no accident. The White House early on decided to start picking fights with those opposing its plans. Rush Limbaugh was an easy target, although declaring him the Republican Party’s “leader” might have been laying it on thick. But Fox News? The Chamber of Commerce? The insurance industry? And with all the big issues on its plate, how is it that the White House still manages to plunge itself into obscure congressional special elections in upstate New York? Or pulls out all the stops to get one governor re-elected?” Meghan Clyne, New York Post: “Obama soared to victory on the hopeful promise of a new era of bipartisanship. During his inaugural address he even promised an ‘end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics.’ Listening to Republican concerns about overspending was a nice gesture — until he shut down any hopes of real dialogue by crassly telling Republican leaders: ‘I won.’ (and advising them to stop listening to Rush Limbaugh)

5. No Lobbyists & High Ethical Standards Promise! Pull up a chair!

   Leon Panetta may have been the first lobbyist Obama nominated for a key position in his administration. 2/5/9 Fox News reports Panetta took $700,000 in speaking and consulting fees from bailed out firms and companies doing business with the government. His “consulting” sounds like lobbying work in the ‘no-lobbyists, I promise’ Obama administration!

   A US Senate committee puts the nomination of William Lynn to be deputy defense secretary on hold. It seems he breaks the brand new Obama Administration Rules just set up the day before! Obama promised no former lobbyists would serve in his administration. That would rule Lynn out. Obama’s press team says rules are made to be broken! UPDATE: Obama administration says it’s in “the public interest” to grant Lynn a waiver!!! So all the other lobbyists hired in the past were hired against “the public interest???”

   Again, Obama breaks his brand new no lobbyist rules! Twice in one week! This time it is with the naming of lobbyist William Corr to be Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services. So much for higher standards” from Team Obama. “When I am president, they [lobbyists] won’t find a job in my White House.” Yeah, right.

   And Again, President B-Rock breaks his own no lobbyist rule. No big deal, rules schmules after all. This time it is with yet another waiver and the appointment of Goldman Sachs Lobbyist Mark Patterson, named to be number two under Tim the Tax Cheat Geithner at the Treasury. Obama again demonstrates what a lousy judge of character he is in picking a tax cheat and a lobbyist with conflicts of interest to head the treasury.

   And Again a lobbyist for the “no-lobbyists” Team Obama. Jocelyn Frye got a waiver to be a “senior official” to First Lady, Michelle Obama.

   And another Lobbyist for the still-no-lobbyists Obama Administration. Fox News says Cecilia Munoz got a waiver to be director of governmental affairs. And with how many affairs these politicians have, she likely will be busy. (Oh, C’mon….that was too funny!). UPDATE 4/22/9 Fox Reports a top Obama adviser said “the brakes were applied after the third waiver (for Munoz) was issued, saying the White House feared it was on “kind of a slippery slope. You learn from your experiences.” The question that had been raised at that point, the adviser said was, “Are we unwittingly going down a road we shouldn’t be?”

   His no lobbyist-administration says the pick for Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs, Richard Verma, would not need a waiver because he had not lobbied the State Department. Senate records, however, indicate that Verma had lobbied the State Department. Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said those records were wrong and were “corrected” to exclude the State Department on Jan. 23 – two days after Obama announced his new no-lobbyist rules! Convenient.

   Obama’s So-Called “Tough” Ethical Standards get Waived Over and Over and Over! Remember when President Obama promised “the strongest ethics standards in U.S. government history?” Jake Tapper at ABC News reports the Obama Administration simply issues waivers to get around the rules! He notes 10 waivers announced this labor day weekend when no one is watching! From Tapper: “Waivers…allow the officials to participate with persons with whom, and entities with which, “the appointees formerly had a professional relationship,” (White House Lawyer) Eisen wrote, “because there was a compelling public interest in allowing it.” — ConservativeAmerican.org notes: Gosh, there never could have been a “compelling public interest” with other presidents before, Riiiiiiiiiiiight? Gee, Obama is so much better than all of them. *Gag*. Tapper Again: “Waiver # 1: NASA administrator Charles Bolden;

   “Associate Deputy Secretary of Labor Naomi Walker; Walker was Director of State Government Affairs for the AFL-CIO but has been permitted to communicate with that organization because, the Obama administration decided, prohibiting her from doing so would be detrimental to the Department of Labor and the AFL-CIO’s 11 million members.

   Reported Ethics Rules Waivers went to: “Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics Ash Carter; Carter was a consultant for defense giant Textron, Inc.
   From AirAmerica.com liberal radio (no, we’re not kidding…it’s from them!), “The Obama Administration has just announced the nomination of Islam Siddiqui, a pesticide industry lobbyist, to the position of Chief Agricultural Negotiator, Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. Green activists say that the appointment places the president’s commitment to progressive environmental policy in serious question.

   Tom Daschle may have been another nominee with lobbyist issues. “He also remains a highly paid policy adviser to hospital, drug, pharmaceutical and other health-care-industry clients of Alston & Bird, the law and lobbying firm.”

   White House Lawyer for Ethics, Norman Eisen, told the American Bar Association only three waivers have been granted for lobbyists so far. He missed a few!

4. I Won’t Raise Your Taxes – “Not One Dime!” - Within days of taking office, Obama breaks promise not to raise any taxes on those making less than $250,000 a year! Obama approves tax hike of 61-cents a pack on cigarettes after saying as a candidate: “I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.” UPDATE: 2/24/9: Obama repeats the lie saying those who make less than $250,000 will not pay higher taxes, “Not one Dime!” UPDATE 3/5/9: Obama’s budget raises 45% of its revenue from energy taxes that will be paid by everyone who fills a gas tank, pays an electric bill, or buys anything that was grown, shipped, or manufactured. UPDATE 3/24/9: Neil Cavuto on Fox reported Obama’s budget raises taxes on those making above $209,000. - Numerous other taxes have been raised since then.
3. ECONOMY: Unemployment Will Stay Below 8% With the Stimulus Bill! - 6/22/9: After selling the Obama Deficit Stimulus Bill as a way to keep unemployment BELOW 8%, Presdient Barack Hugo Obama now says unemployment will hit 10% this year! ABCDEmocrat News reports Obama told Al Hunt at Bloomberg News: ““I think that what you’ve seen is that the pace of job loss has slowed,” Mr. Obama says, “and I think that the economy is going to turn around. But as you know, jobs are a lagging indicator. And we’ve got to produce 150,000 jobs every month just to keep pace.”But, he said, “we will end up seeing recovery shortly.”

ECONOMY: The Stimulus Money Will Go Out the Door “Immediately!” - According to Michael Steele at the RNC, “OMB Director Peter Orszag Said Stimulus Funds Must Be Spent Quickly And Wisely. “If we are to achieve the president‘s goal of creating or saving 3.5 million jobs through this legislation, we need to make sure the money goes out quickly and also wisely.” (Stimulus Money Must Be Spent Quickly, Wisely: Orszag, Reuters, 2/25/09) REALITY: In Five Months Following Signing Of Stimulus Bill, Just 10 Percent Of Money Had Been Spent. “Nearly five months after President Obama signed the $787 billion stimulus bill, a still-worsening economy has many wondering if stimulus is a bunch of baloney. … With August quickly approaching, roughly $75 billion, or 10% of stimulus funds, have been paid out, and the unemployment rate has already risen to 9.5%.” (David Goldman, Stimulus: Progress Or Broken Promise CNN, 7/7/09) Not only did Orszag (See Scandal # 30 above) suggest the money would have to be spent quickly, Obama promised it would be spent “immediately!” According to the RNC: “And that is why I hope to sign an American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan into law in the next few weeks. Most of the money we‘re investing as part of this plan will get out the door immediately and go directly to job-creation, generating or saving three to four million new jobs.” (President Barack Obama, Remarks of President Barack Obama On The Economy, Washington, DC, 1/28/09)
And the number one broken promise of the year from President Barack Obama is…
1. ECONOMY: Stimulus Will Help Areas “Hardest Hit!” - The economy is (should be) the number one issue right now. The president sold us his bill of stimulus goods as the fix. What has it fixed? He promised to help those hardest hit. He hasn’t. This is why we picked this one as number one. “[The stimulus] includes help for those hardest hit by our economic crisis … As a whole, this plan will help poor and working Americans pull themselves into the middle class in a way we haven‘t seen in nearly 50 years.” (President Barack Obama, Remarks At The Signing Of The American Recovery And Reinvestment Act, Denver, CO, 2/17/09) REALITY: States With Low Unemployment Receiving More Stimulus Funds Per Capita Than States With High Unemployment. “Nevada, where unemployment stood at about 10% when the plan was passed, is getting $541 for each resident from the stimulus money allocated so far, a Wall Street Journal analysis found. Wyoming, where the 3.9% jobless rate was the lowest in the country in February, is getting $1,074 per person.” (Louise Radnofsky, Some Hard-Hit States Get Less Stimulus, The Wall Street Journal, 7/1/09) 12/18/9 President Obama is choosing districts that voted democrat to get twice as much stimulus as those that voted republican. This is a clear example of how democrats use government tax dollars to ensure their own continued existence. It’s a scandal and a disgrace! Fox News: “Democratic districts have received nearly twice as much stimulus money as Republican districts and the cash has been awarded without regard to how badly an area was suffering from job losses, according to a new study. The Mercatus Center at George Mason University reviewed the distribution of $157 billion in stimulus dollars based on publicly available reports and found that there was “no statistical correlation” between the amount of money a district got and its income or unemployment rate.” ConservativeAmerican.org: So much for helping the areas hardest hit as Obama promised…yet another broken promise from the nation’s first socialist president. His words are meaningless and worthless.
