The Tale of Two Girlfriends.
Many years from now, when Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina passes away, you won’t hear a Conservative American President call him “the greatest Governor of our time.”
While Obama is calling Kennedy (a man whose actions may have caused the death of Mary Jo Kopechne) the “greatest” senator of our time, Conservative Americans will never call Mark Sanford the greatest governor of our time.
Like Kennedy, Sanford was a staunch supporter of things on our side of the aisle. He was one of our leaders. He was talked of as a Presidential candidate. He betrayed himself, his wife, his faith, his supporters and Conservative Americans everywhere with poor personal choices….Just like Kennedy.
The late Senator Kennedy was a staunch liberal leader who ran for President. He also betrayed himself, his wife, his faith, his supporters and liberals everywhere with very poor personal choices.
Yesterday, the socialist-democrats were bidding farewell to one of their liberal “lions,” the late Senator Ted Kennedy. The nation’s first “socialist lion” President, Barack Obama, said Kennedy had become “the greatest Senator of our time.” The comparison between Sanford and Kennedy is a fair one.
I have no objections to the liberals remembering his…

…liberal accomplishments and noting that one of their own has passed away. My strong objection comes with the President’s statement that Ted Kennedy is the “greatest of our time.” Think what you want about Ted Kennedy, these are facts…
…in July of 1969, Ted Kennedy was driving a car that drove off a bridge and landed in a river. He was with a woman who was not his wife. Her name was Mary Jo Kopechne. Instead of trying to save her, he left the scene of the accident. He was found guilty of that crime. Mary Jo Kopechne died.
Yes, it was a long time ago. Some fairly ask, ‘Why does it matter now?‘ Unless you are member of the Kopechne family or someone who knew Mary Jo, it may not matter to you. ConservativeAmerican.org would not have even brought it up if it were not for the comments the President made calling the late senator, “the greatest.”
As we have pointed out numerous times, Conservative Americans stand for things and those values and beliefs don’t change on a dime given political opinion. Liberals however, will change positions in an instant for current political benefit. It never bothered them that Kennedy betrayed them. They continued to elect him over and over again. Kopechne was simply no longer news.
Kennedy’s girlfriend was dead. His political career lived on.
The contrast with Sanford:
Sanford’s girlfriend is alive. His political career is dead.
Talk of Kennedy’s political accomplishments all you want. Just don’t call him “the greatest” anything. My name is Peter Andrew, and I’m right.

You make some good points. Thanks. Politicians throw themselves into the public eye and are fair game for comment and commentary. I'm no saint, that's for sure! The post is meant to point out the difference between how the liberal left dealt with a situation and how the conservative right dealt with a somewhat similar situation. You're comments are always welcome!
