Freedom Remembered Also Honors Matthew E. Wildes

The military announced yesterday the death of a soldier in Afghanistan who was just 18 years old. Private First Class Matthew E. Wildes of Hammond, Louisiana was killed on Wednesday.

Wildes is the youngest soldier to die since President Obama was sworn in to office on January 20th.

Wildes was in the Army supporting “Operation Enduring Freedom.” He was killed in Afghanistan of wounds the military says he suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device.

We extend our deepest sympathies and gratitude to his family. Matthew Wildes is a hero. He paid the ultimate price to protect the freedom and liberty we enjoy in this great nation of ours. He was called home to God far too early.

Wildes is the 254th soldier to die under the Presidency of Barack Obama. To see a list of all of them, click here. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.
