Obama Not Impressive
Are you Impressed? Are we supposed to be impressed that Barack Obama was President when a giant US Navy ship with highly trained snipers took out three teenage pirates in a blow-up raft? I am impressed with our US Navy and the snipers who quickly killed these men and saved Captain Phillips. I am impressed with the crew of the Maersk Alabama. And, yes, I think it is good that President Obama allowed the military to take action. In the scope of things though, this band of pirates, some of them teenagers, is an enemy that was tiny and easily defeated. It was a pretty darn easy order for President Obama to issue. Am I glad he did it? Of course! I just don’t think it took a lot of leadership to do. Rush Limbaugh tried for hours to make that point today with caller after caller missing it. So President Obama stepped on, squashed and killed, the equivalent of one of those annoying biting ants. They need to be exterminated and yes, I am glad he did it. However, while we killed the ant, there are hungry wolves and lions in the woods waiting for us. So, the issue now is what will Obama do about the REAL enemies we face? That will be the true test of his bravery. It’s a test that, so far, he has failed. Obama had Secretary of State Hillary Clinton promise consequences for North Korea if they tested their rocket capable of sending a nuclear warhead (if it worked) over to Alaska one day. When they did it anyway, the US itself offered no consequences whatsoever! Instead, he sent the cussing and spitting (that’s how she describes herself) Susan Rice to the United Nations to see if that group would be willing to give North Korea a written “time out” for bad behavior. They finally decided today to write them a letter. Ouch. As we move forward, will President Obama be able to handle the enemies that have (or soon will have) nuclear weapons instead of blow-up life rafts? Just when the media was slowly starting to ask what the consequences were going to be for North Korea, the pirates sailed to captain Obama’s rescue. Just when people were starting to wonder if he could be tough against an enemy, a little weakling, teenager, biting ant enemy shows up. Obama then orders the Navy to the location. Today, the White House is claiming that it was President Obama himself who bravely gave the orders yesterday to shoot and kill the three tough teenager enemies and end the standoff. Wow. The media is in awe that he was brave enough to kill a couple of teenagers with guns on a life raft in the ocean. They are praising his strength and leadership. Limbaugh tried hard to get people to see that. The media has forgotten about the wolves and lions waiting for us in the form of Iraq, Iran, and North Korea. And what about the violence in Mexico? Obama had his Homeland Security Chief suggest that was no big deal and if we send the National Guard down there, then we’ll have to send them up to the Canadian border too. So, in reality, the Team Obama response to our real enemies has been weak. He has offered to eliminate our nuclear weapons, to abandon allies in Europe and give up the defense shield to deal with Russia, to propose drastic cuts in military spending, and to run to the United Nations to see if everyone can just get along better now that he will negotiate with Iran, the non-existent moderate Taliban and others who are hostile to our way of life. His response where it matters has been to weaken our great nation and to remove any bark from our bite. This nice little teenage pirate thing has provided him just the cover he needed. To keep it going, he might even hit the pirates on shore. As Rahm Emanuel says, never waste a good crisis.
