Obama’s War on the Military
The Obama Chicago-style Street Gang wants to stop paying the bills for injured veterans! From the Administration that can’t use the words “war,” “victory,” or “military,” this is hardly surprising. However, it is the absolute wrong thing to do. It is shameful for President Obama and his administration to even propose such an awful change in public policy.
As Conservative Americans, we are strong supporters of the military and our brave veterans. We believe this kind of support is crucial to calling one’s self a conservative. In fact, two of our 14 core principles of conservatism relate to the military. From our November 15th post on the topic, we suggest two core values of Conservative Americans are:
- The Strongest Military in the World – the best people, technology, strategies and equipment providing peace through strength and wisdom. Providing security for our nation and our people.
- Honoring the Military – most pay levels for the military are substantially out of date and too low. This is one area where the conservative American believes we should increase spending. Let’s double the pay given to our enlisted men and women, increase other wages and benefits, and take better care of our injured veterans. Let’s show these brave and unselfish people how grateful a nation can be.
Still, CNN reported recently that Vets
“are angry after President Obama told them he is still considering a proposal to have treatment for service-connected injuries charged to veterans’ private insurance plans.”
That’s a sure fire way to force private insurance companies to quadruple rates for those in the military and their families. No mention from the Democrat-Socialists of a corresponding increase in military pay to cover this stupid proposal. This is a horrible idea. From CNN:
“Leaders of the country’s most prominent veterans groups met…with Obama, Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Steven Kosiak, the director in charge of defense spending for the Office of Management and Budget. Some of the veterans groups were caught off guard when the president said the administration is still thinking about the idea as a way of generating $540 million for the Department of Veterans Affairs in 2010. The groups and some members of Congress have been very vocal in opposing the idea…”I got the distinct impression that the only hope of this plan not being enacted is for an alternative plan to be developed that would generate the desired $540 million in revenue,” Cmdr. David Rehbein of the American Legion said in a written statement.”
Even the Democrat chair of the Veteran’s Affairs Committee says this is a stupid idea and there is no way he’ll even bring the idea up for a vote. Still, the administration line is:
“This president takes very seriously the needs of our wounded warriors that have given so much to protect our freedom on the battlefields throughout the world.” Huh? While CNN says the Obama budget calls for an 11% increase in overall VA spending in 2010, and Vets say that is nice, they are steaming mad about this proposal for the government to avoid its responsibility. And they should be.
