Obama Kicks Poor out of School!

Obama has broken yet another promise.  This time his retreat will cost 1,700 poor children the right to a good education just down the street from the White House.

The D.C. Exmainer reports that the “U.S. Senate on Tuesday opted to kill D.C.’s federally funded school voucher program rather than risk sinking the $410 billion omnibus spending bill that will fund the government for the remainder of the fiscal year…Barring passage of a stand-alone reauthorization bill, the roughly 1,700 low-income D.C. youth who currently receive up to $7,500 a year for tuition at a private school would have to enroll in a public or charter school in 2010.”

Now, let’s go back a bit.  Without his teleprompter to tell him what to say, The New York Sun reports that Obama was open to supporting school vouchers on February 14, 2008:

“There is no taking away what Mr. Obama actually said in the interview with the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that was the subject of Ms. Green’s dispatch. “If there was any argument for vouchers, it was ‘Alright, let’s see if this experiment works,’ and if it does, then whatever my preconceptions, my attitude is you do what works for the kids,” the senator said. “I will not allow my predispositions to stand in the way of making sure that our kids can learn. We’re losing several generations of kids and something has to be done.”

The Sun reports that six days later when his Milwaukee comments got national attention, they put a teleprompter back in front of Obama and he took it all back!  The Obama campaign staff even said the reports quoting Mr. Obama were “misleading.”  No they weren’t!  His comments may have been misleading but the lefty Milwaukee Journal did a good job of reporting what he said.  From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel itself:

“Barack Obama said Wednesday that he is skeptical of private school voucher programs, such as the one in Milwaukee, but added if studies prove the programs are successful, “you do what’s best for kids.” … “If there was any argument for vouchers, it was ‘Let’s see if the experiment works,’ ” Obama said. “And if it does, whatever my preconception, you do what’s best for kids.”

Mr. President, it works! He knows the voucher program works.  His own hand-picked Chicago Style Politician Pal, Arne Duncan, now runs the US Department of Education and just this week said the program works.

“Education Secretary Arne Duncan said Wednesday that poor children getting vouchers to attend private schools in the District of Columbia should be allowed to stay there, putting the Obama administration at odds with Democrats trying to end the program. Duncan opposes vouchers, he said in an interview with The Associated Press. But he said Washington is a special case, and kids already in private schools on the public dime should be allowed to continue. “I don’t think it makes sense to take kids out of a school where they’re happy and safe and satisfied and learning,” Duncan told said. “I think those kids need to stay in their school.”

So is Duncan in trouble with Obama for supporting the poor kids in DC?  Obama now says he has always been against school vouchers.  From Life Site News:

“Barack Obama prefers private education for his daughters but won’t give DC parents the same opportunity,” said Brian Burch, President of Fidelis, a Catholic-based political, legal, research and educational organization.  “Vouchers are Change,” he continued. ”Rather than subjecting kids to rotting schools, vouchers have brought change to hundreds of families, who opted for private or parochial schools. If Barack Obama had fought for this program, it would be saved. But he refuses to help these low-income families. By supporting the teachers union, he sadly has become the Status Quo Candidate on education.”

Just another load of crap from Team Obama.  Say one thing, do the opposite.  This is getting old very quickly. Keeping up with his broken promises, lies and scandals is a full time job for us.  The Official Obama Administration Scandals List is already up to 87!  Generations of black Americans stood up to vote for this man because they believed his “change” talk.  Now he is sending 1,700 of their kids back to the old failing public schools.  So much for change.
