Obama’s Brookings Bull # 5 - We Had No Choice! 12/8/9 OBAMA: We were forced to extend assistance to some of the very banks and financial institutions whose actions had helped precipitate the turmoil. FACTS: No one was “forced” to do anything. The institutions could have been allowed to fail. Instead, the Obama administration helped out Wall Street…not main street as his campaign rhetoric suggested. His friends at Goldman Sachs appreciated the gesture. Many of them now work for Obama.

902. Obama’s Brookings Bull # 6 - Deliberately Misleading the American People About Helping Small Businesses 12/8/9 OBAMA: Less than one month after taking office we enacted the most sweeping economic recovery package in history: The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The Recovery Act was divided into three parts. One-third went for tax relief for small businesses and 95 percent of working families. FACTS: This is a deliberate attempt to mislead the American people. The president knowingly implies that one-third of the $787-Billion “went” for tax relief for small businesses. The liberal Huffington Post (see scandal dated 12/3/9 above) “The Obama Administration is claiming they have allocated $17.4 billion of the $785 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (AARA) to small businesses.” - Do the math, $17.4-billion is not even close to HALF of $787-Billion!
903. Obama’s Brookings Bull # 7 - More Saved & Created Jobs Nonsense 12/8/9 OBAMA: We provided assistance that has saved the jobs of hundreds of thousands of teachers and public school workers, firefighters and police officers… the Recovery Act has created jobs and spurred growth FACTS: The president has claimed 600,000 jobs were created or saved, then he said 640,000 then 1-million and today 1.6-million. These jobs creations claims have been widely dismissed as nonsense. There is no way to count a saved job, and of those he said were created, many thousands were made up and never happened. Despite this coming to light, the President continues to use the fraudulent numbers. Rush Limbaugh said, “We have lost seven million-plus jobs. There are almost a million people, according to statistics, who have stopped looking for work. The real unemployment number in the country is about 15%. There is no way to calculate a “saved” job or even a “created” job in the recovery program, and the CBO also said that in the same report. “

Obama’s Brookings Bull # 8 - We “Need” Wind Power 12/8/9 OBAMA: put Americans to work doing the work America needs done: doubling our capacity in renewable energy like wind and solar FACTS: All attempts to make wind and solar technology into efficient sources of power have failed to date. Nuclear power works now. Clean burning coal technology works now. Obama thinks nuclear energy is good enough for Iran, why not for us? American doesn’t “Need” work on wind and solar power right now. Research can be done by private industries.

Obama’s Brookings Bull # 9 - Proposes Tax Cuts Without “Paying” For Them 12/8/9 OBAMA: we’re proposing a complete elimination of capital gains taxes on small business investment along with an extension of write-offs to encourage small businesses to expand in the coming year…(later) Folks passed tax cuts and expensive entitlement programs without paying for any of it - even as health care costs kept rising, year after year. FACTS: The President failed to explain how he will “pay for’ the tax cuts he proposes while criticizing others for doing the same. ConservativeAmerican.org notes it is nonsense to even suggest tax cuts need to be “paid for.” We have dealt with that topic numerous other times.
906. Obama’s Brookings Bull # 10 - Only Government Can Solve These Problems 12/8/9 OBAMA: Of course, there is only so much government can do. Job creation will ultimately depend on the real job creators: businesses across America. FACTS: On January 8th, 2009 Obama said that both government and business will create the jobs, but “only government can provide the short-term boost necessary to lift us from a recession this deep and severe,” Obama said. “Only government can break the vicious cycles that are crippling our economy — where a lack of spending leads to lost jobs which leads to even less spending; where an inability to lend and borrow stops growth and leads to even less credit.”

907. Obama’s Brookings Bull # 11 - TARP was Flawed…Oh, uh, Did I Mention My Guy Wrote It?! 12/8/9 OBAMA: Launched hastily under the last administration, the TARP program was flawed, and we have worked hard to correct those flaws and manage it properly. And today, TARP

     has served its original purpose and at a much lower cost than we expected. FACTS: From Rush Limbaugh today, “He dumped all over the Bush administration. TARP was flawed, his treasury secretary designed it! His tax cheat secretary designed it! It was flawed? My God, it is unbelievable what an immature little kid this guy is, bumping and blaming everything on prior administrations. I tell you, folks, it is breathtaking to watch this.”
908. Obama’s Brookings Bull # 12 - Fiscal Responsibility 12/8/9 OBAMA: One of the central goals of this administration is restoring fiscal responsibility. FACTS: Where do we start? The largest federal budget ever, huge increases in the debt, a quadrupling of the federal deficit in less than one year! This is just a lie to say this is a central goal. If it is, he is a monumental failure! He has spent more money than all previous Presidents combined!
909. Obama’s Brookings Bull # 13 - Audacity of Waxing Political!!! 12/8/9 OBAMA: One of the central goals of this administration is restoring fiscal responsibility. The deficit had been building dramatically over the previous eight years. Folks passed tax cuts and expansive entitlement programs without paying for any of it, even as health care costs kept rising year after year. These budget-busting tax cuts and spending programs were approved by many of the same people who are now waxing political about fiscal responsibility while opposing our efforts to reduce deficits by getting health care costs under control. It’s a sight to see. FACTS: First he waxes political about fiscal responsibility. Then he tries to tell you about Bush doubling the deficit in 8 years but completely ignores the fact he took that Bush deficit and quadrupled it in just a few months!! “Spending programs were approved by many of the same people who are now waxing political about fiscal responsibility.” Is he looking in a freaking mirror or something?!! HE approved these spending programs as a Senator! HE voted for them. HE is now “waxing political!” Give us a ‘Rev. Jeremiah Wright shouldn’t have said that’ Break! The audacity of this man is out of control!….Wait, what’s that smell? Oh…nevermind. Just my blood boiling!

Obama’s Brookings Bull # 14 - Expanding Economy?! 12/8/9 OBAMA: Our economy is growing for the first time in a year, and the swing from contraction to expansion since the beginning of the year is the largest in nearly three decades. FACTS: The number of people unemployed has improved a bit. However, this only means the loss of jobs has slowed. We still have losses every week. There is no expansion. We are still contracting, not expanding.

Obama’s Brookings Bull # 15 - Taxpayers “Reap Billions in PROFIT?!” 12/8/9 OBAMA: And the assistance to banks, once thought to cost the taxpayers untold billions, is on track to actually reap billions in profit for the taxpaying public. This gives us a chance to pay down the deficit faster than we thought possible and to shift funds that would have gone to help the banks on Wall Street to help create jobs on Main Street. FACTS: It’s obvious, I know, but it’s not a “profit” if he simply shifts funds to other new spending. That would just mean the government made a bit more than it thought it would but went and spent it all, leaving NO GAIN, no profit at all! Isn’t this a lie? UPDATE 12/31/9: Tom White at Virginia Right makes an excellent observation: “First, we borrowed the money to “bail out” these companies. And when the companies paid it back with interest at the same low rate the government paid to borrow the money, just how did we make money? On top of that, Obama is still holding that money AND the repaid interest and looking for ways to spend it – all the while paying MORE interest. No. I believe we would have only just broken even if the paid off loans were in turn used to pay off our debt. By holding on to the money, we are taking a financial bath.

912. Obama’s Brookings Bull # 16 - Admits He Wants to Kill Free Market Capitalism! 12/8/9 OBAMA: We cannot simply go back to the way things used to be. We can’t go back to an economy that yielded cycle after cycle of speculative booms and painful busts. FACTS: As explained by Rush Limbaugh, “So that’s the official proclamation that capitalism is finished in this country. We’re going to end capitalism. We’re going to have no more risk-taking; we’re not going to have any up and down cycles; we’re going to have a straight line of mediocrity!”

Obama’s Brookings Bull # 17 - We Stemmed the Tide of Foreclosures 12/8/9 OBAMA: We enacted measures to stem the tide of foreclosures in our housing market, helping responsible homeowners stay in their homes. FACTS: RealtyTrac reports, “Default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions — were reported on 937,840 properties in the third quarter, a 5 percent increase from the previous quarter and an increase of nearly 23 percent from Q3 2008. One in every 136 U.S. housing units received a foreclosure filing during the quarter — the highest quarterly foreclosure rate since RealtyTrac began issuing its report in the first quarter of 2005.” The President also said home values are improving. While that was actually true, the national home values remain below 2008 levels.
914. Obama’s Brookings Bull # 18 - He Saved the Auto Industry! 12/8/9 OBAMA: We also took steps to prevent the rapid dissolution of the American auto industry, which faced a crisis partly of its own making, to prevent the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs during an already fragile time. These were not decisions that were popular or satisfying; these were decisions that were necessary. FACTS: This one is up for debate. The key word seems to be “dissolution” and it would depend who you ask. Dissolution can mean separation. You could argue that Fiat’s involvement meant separation did take place. Dissolution can also mean to dissolve, fall apart or disintegrate. Union workers still employed would likely say that is true. GM and Chrysler continue to make cars. However, Obama took unprecedented (you know he loves that word) steps, without any legal authority to do so, to render contracts null and void between the car makers and the people who financed them. Instead, he followed President Bush’s steps into socialism and simply took over the car companies. He then demanded the authority to fire the GM CEO and gave away huge stakes in ownership of the two companies to the auto workers union! You and I, through our tax dollars, paid for these companies with bailouts. As “owners” of the government and these companies, why did our CEO (Barack Obama) simply give away this asset to his democrat-voting union pals?

Obama’s Brookings Bull # 19 - He Helped Companies Compete?! 12/8/9 OBAMA: In addition, we are working to break down barriers and open overseas markets so our companies can better compete globally, creating jobs in America by exporting our products around the world. FACTS: From the Scandals List # 653: “Obama Uses Tax Dollars to Bailout Captain Morgan Rum! 9/7/9 AND, the bailout hurts Puerto Rico, a U.S. Territory! The LA Times: “The U.S. taxpayer is basically being asked to line the pockets of the world’s largest liquor producer,” says Steve Ellis, the vice president of Taxpayers for Common Sense, a nonpartisan watchdog organization…With little fanfare, a deal is moving forward to direct billions in U.S. tax dollars to an unlikely beneficiary — the giant British liquor producer that makes Captain Morgan rum. Under the agreement, London-based Diageo PLC will receive tax credits and other benefits worth $2.7 billion over 30 years, including the entire $165-million cost of building a state-of-the-art distillery on the island of St. Croix in the Virgin Islands, a U.S. territory. Virgin Islands officials say the arrangement complies with the letter and spirit of tax law and will help the islands’ sagging economy. Captain Morgan is now produced in another U.S. territory, Puerto Rico, and critics say the Virgin Islands’ subsidy for the new distillery there, along with the other benefits, are so generous that they practically guarantees a profit on every gallon of rum produced there by Diageo, the biggest distilled spirits maker in the world.” — And from the Scandals List # 599 “Hypocrite-in-Chief Obama Finances Offshore Drilling…in BRAZIL!!! 8/18/9 - Wall Street Journal: “The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil’s state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil’s Tupi oil field…near Rio de Janeiro…White House National Security Adviser James Jones met this month with Brazilian officials to talk about the loan. The U.S. Export-Import Bank tells us it has issued a “preliminary commitment” letter to Petrobras in the amount of $2 billion and has discussed with Brazil the possibility of increasing that amount…this corporate foreign aid may strike some readers as odd, given that the U.S. Treasury seems desperate for cash and Petrobras is one of the largest corporations in the Americas. But look on the bright side. If President Obama has embraced offshore drilling in Brazil, why not in the old U.S.A.? The land of the sorta free and the home of the heavily indebted has enormous offshore oil deposits.” — He may have helped companies compete, but they weren’t U.S. companies!

Obama’s Brookings Bull # 20 - Tax Break for New Hires (AGAIN) 12/8/9 OBAMA: And I believe it’s worthwhile to create a tax incentive to encourage small businesses to add and keep employees and I’m going to work with Congress to pass one. FACTS: Neither party likes this idea and he has very little chance of making it happen. From the Scandals List # 142: “The St. Petersburg Times says Obama promised a $3,000 tax credit for businesses that add an employee. His stimulus bill did not include the idea and it appears to be dead. It never got support in Congress, even from Democrats. Lawmakers were concerned the credit wasn’t enough of an incentive. Tax policy analysts said the credit would be an administrative nightmare.”

Obama’s Brookings Bull # 21 - Have Our Spending Cake and Eat the Deficit Too! 12/8/9 OBAMA: There are those who claim we have to choose between paying down our deficits on the one hand, and investing in job creation and economic growth on the other. But this is a false choice. Ensuring that economic growth and job creation are strong and sustained is critical to ensuring that we are increasing revenues and decreasing spending on things like unemployment so that our deficits will start coming down. FACTS: Interesting comments. His own budget director disagrees with him. Peter Orszag, liberal blogger from the Brookings Institution where Obama was speaking, once wrote for that organization that, “If we do invest more than two percent of our income, we must borrow the difference from foreigners - which would leave future generations of Americans increasing indebted to other nations…This borrowing from abroad, however, mortgages the future returns from domestic investment in the U.S.”

Obama’s Brookings Bull # 22 - TARP Flip-Flop 12/9/9 This one comes from the Wall Street Journal: “This time, however, Mr. Obama is also proposing to use funds repaid by banks to the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program. When Congress passed TARP a year ago, the Democrats who ran the joint vowed that the cash was intended to save the financial system and that any returns would promptly go to pay down the debt. As Candidate Obama put it, “every penny” would go “directly back to the American people.” That was then.”

Obama Won’t Give Congress Report on Fort Hood Massacre!- 12/9/9 Fox News: “The White House has been sitting on a preliminary review of the Fort Hood shooting since the end of November and refuses to share its contents with Congress, House Republicans say. Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee have been pressing the Obama administration to either provide a copy of the review or brief them on it, arguing that it’s important for relevant members to be in the loop as the review goes forward. “They’re stonewalling us. They won’t give us anything,” Rep. Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, told FoxNews.com. “They have just refused to brief Congress any further on this whole matter. … It doesn’t make sense to me.” The National Security Council last month took control over informational briefings on the Nov. 5 shooting rampage, which left 13 dead and dozens wounded at the Texas base. The preliminary report from intelligence agencies was due at the end of November. A White House spokesman said in an e-mail Wednesday that the reason members of Congress have not been briefed on the report is because, “We’re reviewing it.” But Thornberry said the White House is obligated to share the information it has. He cited the National Security Act of 1947.”

Holder Sending Gitmo Terrorists to ‘Rehab’ in Saudi Arabia where Some Simply are ‘Lost!’ 12/9/9 Fox News; “A senior Republican senator is demanding Attorney General Eric Holder suspend transfers of Guantanamo Bay detainees to Saudi Arabia until the “failures” of that kingdom’s so-called rehabilitation program are addressed. Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala.,…wrote…that 11 of Saudi Arabia’s 85 most wanted terrorists are “graduates” of the country’s rehab program, including some high-profile names. “The list of failed participants in the Saudi program reads like a ‘who’s who’ of Al Qaeda terrorists on the Arabian Peninsula,” Sessions wrote…Sessions’ office notes that about 120 detainees, many of neighboring Yemeni descent, have been sent to Saudi Arabia. Of that number, 108 have reportedly “graduated” and about 20 percent of that number have disappeared. The rest appear to be complying with the rules of rehabilitation.” - ConservativeAmerican.org: Disappeared?! So Obama’s plan to close Gitmo is simply to send these terrorists to the House of Saud where they “disappear?!”

     12/9/9 Michelle Malkin catches EPA radical Lisa Jackson in a lie: “EPA chief Lisa Jackson has denied that the greenhouse gas endangerment finding had anything to do at all with the Copenhagan climate change conference. Nope, don’t question the timing of the EPA’s war on carbon. Pure coincidence. Except…Jackson herself said the exact opposite in a statement Tweeted by a Mother Jones environmental reporter, Kate Sheppard, on Monday.”

Geithner Flip-Flops on Obama’s call to ‘Wind Down” the TARP Program 12/9/9 Ed Morrisey at Hot Air: “Obama…said he would press Congress to…pay for additional infrastructure works, tax breaks for small businesses and incentives for consumers…“But with a fiscal crisis to match our economic crisis, we also must be prudent about how we fund it. So to help support these efforts, we’re going to wind down the Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP — the fund created to stabilize the financial system so banks would lend again.” …Today, however, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner announced that the White House would extend the TARP program: Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner says the administration is extending the financial bailout program until next fall.”…So “wind down” is the Obama version of Orwellian Newspeak for “extension”?”

Obama Breaks Promise to Family Farmers 12/9/9 From Common Dreams comes this written by : “And it means ensuring that the policies being shaped at the Departments of Agriculture and Interior are designed to serve not big agribusiness or Washington influence peddlers, but the family farmers and the American People.” - President-elect Barack Obama, December 17 2008, Chicago, Illinois…It stopped there, the delivery of the promise fell short…Monsanto stalwarts Michael Taylor, special assistant to the FDA Commissioner for food safety and Roger Beachy, head of National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). Rajiv Shah, head of U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) where his pro-biotech leanings will continue to be pushed on the developing world…Islam Siddiqui {ConservativeAmerican.org notes: See Scandal dated 10/26/9)} , Chief Agriculture Negotiator, office of U.S. Trade Representative, is a particularly troubling nomination. He is no friend of consumers, considering his most recent employment at CropLife America (CLA), the pesticide industries main trade association. As a registered lobbyist and vice president of regulatory affairs, Siddiqui was responsible for setting and selling CLA’s international and domestic agenda which, simply put, was to weaken regulations on pesticides and agricultural chemicals worldwide. He is no friend of farmers either, and not just organic farmers, even though he has a long history of distaste for organic agriculture. He promotes agribusiness, chemical companies, processors and grain marketers who make their profits by buying low, processing and selling high. In his world, a farmers job is to maintain corporate profits….President Obama noted as a candidate: “We’ll tell ConAgra that it’s [USDA] not the Department of Agribusiness. Obama Lied About Substantive Talks with Republicans 12/9/9 A website called HotAirPundit reports that Karl Rove exposed this lie, “Rove: “There has not been one substantive meeting on Health Care in the House, the Senate or at the White House in which Republicans have a given seat at the table for substantive discussion”

Obama’s Peace Prize “A Little Early” 12/10/9 Fox News: “the Dalai Lama…believes the award is “a little early” and cautioned the U.S. president against relying too much on his advisers.The exiled Tibetan leader won the Nobel prize 20 years ago for his peaceful opposition to Chinese rule in his country. The Dalai Lama told Sky News: “I think if you are realistic, it may have been a little early but it doesn’t matter, I know Obama is a very able person. Sometimes these individual persons rely on different advice from different people so like former President Bush junior, as a human being I really love him, really wonderful person, very honest, very truthful.But I think due to his advisers’ views, some of his policies have been a disaster.”
926. Obama Still Blaming Bush for The “Glorious” War!- 12/13/9 Despite numerous broken promises to end war and bring troops home, President Obama continues to blame George W. Bush for everything. He told Couric-BS News today, “And one of the mistakes that was made over the last eight years is for us to have a triumphant sense about war. There was a tendency to say, “We can go in. We can kick some tail. This is some glorious exercise.” When in fact, this is a tough business.” - War is tough? Gosh. Imagine that! Obama is learning it is harder to be commander-in-chief than it is to criticize one from the Senate.

Team Obama: Recession is Over, BUT it is NOT Over Too! 12/13/9 Fox News: “Everybody agrees that the recession is over,” said Larry Summers, director of the National Economic Council. “Of course not,” countered Council of Economic Advisers Chairwoman Christina Romer in a separate interview when asked if the recession is a thing of the past.” - Chicago Street Gang Politician Rahm Emanuel said the recession was over months ago. Barack Obama repeatedly says we are “Back from the Brink.”

Obama Makes Bad Guys out of Bankers then Claims He’s Not Doing That! 12/14/9 Fox News:”The president set a tense tone for the meeting in an interview broadcast the night before in which he called Wall Street bankers “fat cats” whom he has little obligation to help. He (then) said Monday afternoon that he has no interest in “vilifying” Wall Street but wants them to be fully on board with efforts to spur job growth on Main Street.” - So, are they bad guys or not? More Jekyll & Hyde stuff from the President!
929. Obama Upset with Wall Street Salaries while giving Huge Pay Raises to Federal Employees! 12/14/9 USA Today: “The number of federal workers earning six-figure salaries has exploded during the recession, according to a USA TODAY analysis of federal salary data. Federal employees making salaries of $100,000 or more jumped from 14% to 19% … Federal workers are enjoying an extraordinary boom time — in pay and hiring — during a recession that has cost 7.3 million jobs in the private sector. The highest-paid federal employees are doing best of all on salary increases. Defense Department civilian employees earning $150,000 or more increased from 1,868 in December 2007 to 10,100 in June 2009, the most recent figure available.When the recession started, the Transportation Department had only one person earning a salary of $170,000 or more. Eighteen months later, 1,690 employees had salaries above $170,000.The trend to six-figure salaries is occurring throughout the federal government, in agencies big and small, high-tech and low-tech. The primary cause: substantial pay raises and new salary rules.”There’s no way to justify this to the American people. It’s ridiculous,” says Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, a first-term lawmaker who is on the House’s federal workforce subcommittee.” - Ya think?! Where is the Obama Pay Czar? He should look into this. Also, the President should quit pretending to be upset about “fat cats” earning high wages. Hypocrisy on parade!

ObamaCare Nightmare Cost Control Illusion 12/14/9 Wall Street Journal Op-Ed: “ObamaCare’s core promise—better quality care for everyone at lower costs—is being exposed as an illusion as it degenerates into the raw exercise of political power. Naturally, the White House and its media booster club are working furiously to prop up this fiasco, especially on cost control.As Obama budget director Peter Orszag put it at a revealing media breakfast earlier this month, the Senate bill does everything the experts recommend to “get at the underlying drivers of health-care costs.” While he admitted that “we don’t know enough” to produce results right away, the key is to encourage “continuous improvement” through pilot programs and demonstration projects. 931. White House Lies about Pressuring Reid to Cut a Deal with Lieberman 12/15/9 The Huffington Post today says Rahm Emanuel and Barack Obama have gone too far this time. The headline reads, ‘A Rahm Too Far: Time for Obama Voters to Pull the Plug!‘ This is the ultra-liberal Huffington Post mind you! They want socialist healthcare now and they feel like Obama is selling them out. Lee Stranahan writes, “Whatever happens with this bill, one thing is now crystal clear - the White House is calling the shots and they want a bill that’s a giveaway to the insurance industry with no real protections, public option, or Medicare rollback. There is NO standard here except passing a bill. Oh. And the White House is willing to lie about it, too. Enough. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) to keep the prospects for health care reform legislation alive, a keyed in aide confirms…The White House denies the charge. Spokesman Dan Pfeiffer tells TPMDC, “The report is inaccurate. The White House is not pushing Senator Reid in any direction.”

President Obama gets Inappropriate at Home Depot! 12/15/9 The LA Times reports, “President Obama went to a Home Depot today… The president is calling on Congress to offer new incentives for homeowners and business to add insulation, replace leaky windows and doors and do other “retrofitting” that can save energy consumption and costs — and create some needed jobs in the process. “I know the idea may not be glamorous,” Obama said, alluding to a recent round-table talk. “Someone said insulation is not very sexy. … I disagree. … Here’s what’s sexy about it: saving money.” - ConservativeAmerican.org feels this is an inappropriate comment for a President of the United States to make. It’s also just plain bizarre and odd to call insulation “sexy.”

     The cover was reportedly created and ready to go prior to the Tiger Woods scandals breaking. The timing certainly is lousy for Barack Obama! You gotta love how it says 10 things Obama can learn from Tiger! Maybe it should be 14?! Wonder if Michelle will still let Barack golf with Tiger? UPDATE ADDED 12/26/9: The LA Times says “The fallout from the Tiger Woods scandal continues to grow as Golf Digest announced it was suspending his monthly instructional articles. “We respect Tiger’s decision to take a break from professional golf and focus on his family,” a Golf Digest publicist said. “Tiger’s bylined instruction articles will not be published in Golf Digest during his time away from the game.”
934. Obama Welcoming Terrorists to His Home State! 12/15/9 The President announced today he will bring about 100 terrorists from Guantanamo Bay prison to Thomson, Illinois where they will be granted the full rights of a U.S. Citizen instead of being treated as prisoners of war. Fox reports, “The American people and a bipartisan majority of the Congress have already rejected bringing terrorists to U.S. soil for long-term detention, and current law prohibits it,” Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said in a statement. “The administration has failed to explain how transferring terrorists to Gitmo North will make Americans safer than keeping these terrorists off of our shores in the secure facility in Cuba…House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, blasted the move as “preposterous” and said the administration will look to “paint this as jobs plan while making Americans less safe. We’ve had votes in Congress that made it clear we want to keep terrorists out of America,” Boehner said on the House floor Tuesday. “I can tell you I won’t vote to spend one dime to move prisoners to the U.S.” ConservativeAmerican.org notes even Harry Reid has said he is against bringing any of these people to American soil. He hopes we will forget about that though. Perhaps Bill Ayers can make them feel at home! UPDATE ADDED 12/26/9: Hot Air says, “Newest broken promise: Gitmo to close no sooner than early 2011…officials now believe that they are unlikely to close the prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, and transfer its population of terrorism suspects until 2011 at the earliest.”
935. Obama’s Latest Health Care Lie 12/15/9 Fire Dog Lake reports, “After exiting a meeting with the Senate Democratic caucus, President Obama approached the microphone and proceeded to tell a bald-faced lie about health care reform: “You talk to every health care economist out there, they will tell you that what ever ideas exist in terms of bending the cost curve and starting to reduce cost for families, businesses, and government, those elements are in this bill.” This statement is 100% false–and Obama knows that. This bill does not contain anywhere near most ideas for controlling health care costs. This bill does not even contain most of the cost-reducing ideas that were part of Obama’s health care plan during last year’s presidential campaign. What makes his lie so unbelievable is that Obama’s administration is right now fighting against one of the biggest cost control ideas that the president previously claimed to support. His administration is working to kill Dorgan’s drug re-importation amendment.”

Obama’s “Mother of All Broken Campaign Promises!” 12/16/9 True/Slant reports Obama has broken his promise not to have smokey back-room deals with the drug companies. “A memo obtained by the Huffington Post confirms that the White House and the pharmaceutical lobby secretly agreed to precisely the sort of wide-ranging deal that both parties have been denying over the past week. . . .It says the White House agreed to oppose any congressional efforts to use the government’s leverage to bargain for lower drug prices or import drugs from Canada — and also agreed not to pursue Medicare rebates or shift some drugs from Medicare Part B to Medicare Part D, which would cost Big Pharma billions in reduced reimbursements.” Obama said once, “We’ll tell the pharmaceutical companies ‘thanks, but no, thanks’ for the overpriced drugs — drugs that cost twice as much here as they do in Europe and Canada.” Watch him make the promises below.

Obama’s Broken Promise to Take on the Drug Industry 12/16/9 The Washington Post: “On the campaign trail, Barack Obama vowed to take on the drug industry by allowing Americans to import cheaper prescription medicine. “We’ll tell the pharmaceutical companies ‘thanks, but no, thanks’ for the overpriced drugs — drugs that cost twice as much here as they do in Europe and Canada,” he said back then. On Tuesday, the matter came to the Senate floor — and President Obama forgot the “no, thanks” part. Siding with the pharmaceutical lobby, the administration successfully fought against the very idea Obama had championed. “It’s got to be a little awkward,” said Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.).”

Obama’s Broken Promise to Take on Terrorists in our Sights 12/16/9 From National Review Online, Newsweek and Allahpundit at Hot Air: “Geraghty (NRO) counts this as another star in the great galaxy of broken Obama promises, dating to the convention when he vowed to take out Bin Laden and his underlings “if we have them in our sights.” True? Five administration officials tell NEWSWEEK that the president has sided with political and diplomatic advisers who argue that widening the scope of the drone attacks would be risky and unwise. Obama is concerned that firing missiles into urban areas like Quetta, where intelligence reports suggest that Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar and other high-level militants have sometimes taken shelter, would greatly increase the risk of civilian casualties. It would also draw protests from Pakistani politicians and military leaders, who have been largely quiet about the drone attacks as long as they’ve been confined to the country’s out-of-sight border region.”
939. Obama Scare Tactics: Nation Will Go Bankrupt Without ObamaCare! 12/16/9 Charles Hubris Gibson (why hasn’t he retired yet?), complete with his snobby grandma glasses, interviewed Obama. The President used scare tactics he has accused republicans of using. He said without his ObamaCare Nightmare, your health insurance costs will go up, your employer might drop health insurance all together and the nation will go bankrupt! He sure has that one backwards! It’s WITH ObamaCare that the nation may go Bankrupt! As Sarah Palin said in our Scandal dated 9/9/9, “And it’s hard to listen to the President lecture us not to use “scare tactics” when in the next breath he says that “more will die” if his proposals do not pass.”
940. Obama Appointment Scandal # 89 - Mari Carmen Aponte 12/17/9 Fox News: “President Obama’s recent nominee for ambassador to El Salvador was forced to withdraw her nomination to another diplomatic post a decade ago following concerns about ties to Cuba, raising red flags as her name heads to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee once again for approval. The White House announced the nomination of Mari Carmen Aponte last Wednesday along with a handful of other appointments. The selection has started to draw some attention given that former President Clinton nominated her for ambassador to the Dominican Republic in 1998, only to see the nomination fizzle after the foreign relations panel questioned her over her past relationship with someone who had apparently caught the attention of the FBI. One former official with knowledge of that nomination said the committee started scrutinizing Aponte after learning that she had attended a party at the Cuban mission to the United Nations in New York City, and that she had a relationship with someone, Roberto Tamayo, who had raised concern at the FBI over “possible ties to the Cuban government” and “repeated trips there.” The former official said the matter “sure as hell” should come up this time around.”
941. Obama Predicts His Own Climate Defeat! 12/17/9 Fox News reports “White House officials said they hoped the final result would be a so-called operation agreement — weaker than a binding set of greenhouse gas limits with measurable target dates but stronger than a political commitment with no underlying action plan.” That’s quite a switch from earlier plans calling for Obama to show up on December 18th for a victory lap and the signing of some monumental climate treaty!

942. Robert Gibbs Disagrees with Obama on Signing an Agreement Just to Have An Agreement! 12/17/9 You know how democrats are willing to dump all their original plans for health reform just to get a bill, any bill, signed by Christmas? Apparently some high up in Obama’s administration think that’s a dumb idea. Fox News reports White House Spinster Robert Gibbs made the following comment, “We’re not going there just to get an agreement for the sake of something that’s called an agreement.” Here’s the catch. Gibbs was talking about the Climate Hoax Conference in Copenhagen. Shouldn’t the same thing apply to issues here at home? Surely he must think so. It can’t be that he’s just being a BIG, FAT HYPOCRITE!!
943. Axelrod says Howard Dean is Insane! 12/17/9 The Politico reports that White House Senior Adviser David Axelrod called former DNC Chair Howard Dean “Insane” while on MicroSoftNBC today! “Axelrod said Thursday that Howard Dean’s criticisms of health-care reform are “predicated on a bunch of erroneous conclusions” and that for progressives to torpedo the legislation “would be a tragic, tragic outcome. To defeat a bill that will bend the curve on this inexorable rise in health-care costs is insane!” - UPDATE 12/20/9: ABC: “Axelrod clarified that he didn’t say Dean was insane, but that “it would be insane to pass on the opportunity to enact the reform that would have such a positive impact on our future…it was probably an unfortunate choice of words.” - ConservativeAmerican.org observes it’s such a shame to see these guys fighting each other!
944. Obama Sending Terrorists Back Home to Yemen! 12/18/9 The Washington Post: “The Obama administration is planning to repatriate six Yemenis held at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, a transfer that could be a prelude to the release of dozens more detainees to Yemen, according to sources with independent knowledge of the matter. The release is a significant first step toward dealing with the largest group of detainees at the prison — there are currently 97 Yemenis there — and toward meeting President Obama’s goal of closing the facility. But Yemen’s security problems and lack of resources have spawned fears about its ability to monitor and rehabilitate returnees. Critics of the administration charge that returning detainees to Yemen, a country where al-Qaeda is believed to be thriving, is tantamount to returning terrorists to the battlefield.
945. Obama Announces Huge New Climate Agreement - To Do NOTHING! 12/18/9 In his latest global failure, President Obama was unable to accomplish anything meaningful at the Climate Hoax Conference…thank, God. Fox reports, “Obama announced a “meaningful and unprecedented breakthrough” in talks with China and three other countries on the final day of a climate change summit here — but the deal included no binding mandates to reduce emissions, and even Obama admitted the result fell short of expectations. A legally binding treaty “is going to be very hard, and it’s going to take some time.”
946. Obama Uses Stimulus for Political Payoff to Democrats! 12/18/9 President Obama is choosing districts that voted democrat to get twice as much stimulus as those that voted republican. This is a clear example of how democrats use government tax dollars to ensure their own continued existence. It’s a scandal and a disgrace! Fox News: “Democratic districts have received nearly twice as much stimulus money as Republican districts and the cash has been awarded without regard to how badly an area was suffering from job losses, according to a new study. The Mercatus Center at George Mason University reviewed the distribution of $157 billion in stimulus dollars based on publicly available reports and found that there was “no statistical correlation” between the amount of money a district got and its income or unemployment rate.” ConservativeAmerican.org: So much for helping the areas hardest hit as Obama promised…yet another broken promise from the nation’s first socialist president. His words are meaningless and worthless.
947. ObamaCare Nightmare Breaks Obama Pledge to Save Businesses Money 12/19/9 - Freedom Works has the Obama quote: “And it will slow the growth of health care costs for our families, our businesses, and our government.” However, the National Federation of Independent Businesses says the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which is short on savings and long on costs, is the wrong reform, at the wrong time and will increase healthcare costs and the cost of doing business. Freedom Works also reported that the Congressional Budget Office said that in general, firms with more than 50 workers that did not offer coverage would have to pay a penalty of $750 for each full-time worker if any of their workers obtained subsidized coverage through the insurance exchanges.”
948. ObamaCare Nightmare Breaks Obama Pledge to Cut the Cost of a Typical Family by $2,500 12/19/9 - Freedom Works has the Obama quote: “I have made a solemn pledge that I will sign a universal health care bill into law by the end of my first term as president that will cover every American and cut the cost of a typical family’s premium by up to $2,500 a year.” However, Freedom Works says the CBO reports the Reid Bill would cause the average premiums to increase by $2,100 for a family policy in the individual market.” — This one is a bit tricky. Team Obama was counting money the government would save in its $2,500 figure per family. Regardless, it seems to be very much false.
949. Obama Lies About ObamaCare Reducing the Deficit (AGAIN) 12/21/9 President Obama today said his ObamaCare Nightmare will reduce the deficit by $132-Billion in the first ten years and another $1.3-Trillion in the second ten years. He said those “carping about big spending” have an argument that doesn’t hold water. Rush Limbaugh notes the ObamaCare Nightmare will worsen the budget and the budget deficit every year. If what the President is claiming is true, then why the need for billions in new taxes within the plan?! Hmmmm? UPDATE ADDED 12/26/9: Jake Tapper at ABC News, “But the deficit reduction number cited by the president has been disavowed by CBO. When CBO first guesstimated by how much the Senate health reform legislation would reduce the deficit, they said it would be about half a percent of GDP — $1.3 billion, said Democrats. But on Sunday, CBO Director Doug Elmendorf issued a correction, downgrading the estimate from half a percent of GDP to between a quarter and a half a percent. The reason is that CBO misinterpreted when recommendations from the Medicare Advisory Committee would kick in.” - Meanwhile, Ed Morrissey at Hot Air wants to know why ABC Nightly News ignored the fact Obama was lying! If Tapper had the story, why not air it?!
950. Obama Deliberately Misleads Americans about National Debt! 12/21/9 The President of the United States today purposely left the truth out of his statements on the national debt. Obama said when he walked through the door, the country faced an economy headed south, and “massive tax cuts” that had been passed without “paying for them.” We’ve demonstrated here before how stupid the whole idea of “paying” for a tax cut is. Those tax cuts the President spoke of created MORE REVENUE for the federal government, not less. He’s still lying about that. Obama said during Bush’s term, the debt doubled and that we can’t continue to spend money like it’s Monopoly money! The audacity! Rush Limbaugh called him a coward for this remark. President Obama has quadrupled the deficit in less than one year. He has spent more money in less than one year than George W. Bush spent in all 8 years combined!! He claims to care about the debt and not spending “funny money,” but has done more to increase the debt than any other President ever. President Obama is a walking fraud.
