Sotomayor: Fox Disagrees with Itself

Judge Napolitano pointed out on the Fox News show, “Fox & Friends” today that Sonia Sotomayor would NOT be the first Hispanic to serve as a U.S. Supreme Court Justice. He mentioned that President Roosevelt (an error on his part, it actually was President Herbert Hoover) had appointed the first HIspanic, a Jewish man named Benjamin N. Cardozo. We explain it all here.

Later in the day, the Fox News website featured a story by Major Garrett and Shannon Brearn that said: “Sotomayor, who would be the court’s first Hispanic member and third woman — and who has touted her race and gender as an asset — frequently has argued in favor of minority plaintiffs and points of view.”

So, Fox News disagrees with itself over the issue!!!

Just keep this in mind…Cardozo’s ancestry was from Portugal. The term ‘Hispanic’ is derived from the ancient term for the peninsula that both Spain and PORTUGAL reside in: Hispania, which now is called the Iberian Peninsula. Any way you spin the story or the definition of Hispanic, Cardozo fits the bill and has the honor of being the first Hispanic on the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Any way you spin the story on the definition of Hispanic, Cardozo fits the bill”, but only as long as you spin it as meaning “from Hispania”. However, that definition is not the current one in modern US usage and used by the US Census. So for 99% of the ways you spin the definition of Hispanic, including all of the commonly accepted ones, Cardoza was not Hispanic.

Nor are you entitled to your own facts. The US Census is not the be all or end all of what the term Hispanic means. You admit that there is debate. This story is about Fox News disagreeing with itself on the issue. Thanks for stopping by. You are welcome any time and we appreciate your comments and feedback.
