Bush-Paulson: Inspiring Panic

From time to time I have read articles about  qualities people like to see in their boss or in their leaders.  I remember that “panic” has never been on these lists.  Yet isn’t that exactly what President Bush and Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson have done? I remember the President coming out one day, maybe a Thursday, and basically saying: “Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Hank Paulson.  Probably none of you have ever heard of him before now.  We’re here to tell you that if we don’t get $700-Billion of your tax dollars by Monday, the entire economic sky will fall.  Thank you and good night.”  I probably paraphrased a bit, but you get the idea. This is not what we expect from our leaders.  It created a sense of panic that cost people trillions of dollars.  The panic they displayed scared people who quit spending.  These are not the things we want to have happen.  Thanks a bunch, George and Hank.  Dr. Rick Johnson of CEO Strategist, says this kind of leadership is the wrong approach: “Yes, there are economic problems, but there are also opportunities! Leadership during these tough economic times is about not panicking, and that’s exactly the message I want to get across… don’t panic! Panic causes knee jerk reactions, and they’re rarely correct. This Economic Panic that could be caused by “Media Sensationalism” can create a knee jerk reaction that negates effective leadership.  We must understand the difference between panic and caution.   Panic - (noun) a sudden overwhelming fear, with or without cause that produces hysterical or irrational behavior that often spreads. - Caution – (noun) a prudent forethought to minimize risk: a warning, a precaution. - Deliberate Leadership, clear thinking and solid strategies leads to success in any economy. Panic leads to failure.” New national leaders have to avoid this sense of panic.  Wall Street loves panic.  The people who work on Wall Street eat panic for breakfast.  Then they get nervous and have a snack of anxiety and depression.  We should probably by stock in stomach care products like Tums and Rolaids.  (No, we don’t offer any REAL advice on stock picks, we are kidding). Or maybe, we should all just calm down.  Things are bad right now.  They will get better.  Some doors have closed, others will open.  We can get through this.  We will get through this.  Do your part to help the economy.  Buy something!  You could even start with our sponsor myLEpc (ad to the right).  Buy a low energy consumption PC for your green friends for Christmas!
