How Conservative Principles Can Help the Economy

Part 1 of a 7 part series December 3-9, 2008

By Peter Andrew - ConservativeAmerican.org

Economists, pundits and elected officials are all looking for a magic potion that will fix the ailing economy.  None is needed.  Traditional Conservative American principles, values, beliefs and ideals can be the medicine our nation and our economy needs.  When applied, these core conservative values can improve our economy and put American ingenuity to work to create prosperity.

For each of the next seven days, we’ll be looking at two core principles of traditional conservative Americans and how they can be put to work to repair the economy. Today, we’ll examine lowering taxes and shrinking the size of the federal government.

CORE VALUE #1

  • Lower taxes – on you, your neighbors and the businesses you own or work for.

A tactic the government could employ to improve the economy would be to lower taxes.  Conservative Americans have always stood for lower taxes.  In January, Barack Obama himself may join us.  There have been hints that he would be willing to consider a tax cut.  He has promised a tax cut for 95% of all Americans and time will tell how that plays out.

The tax cut has to be a genuine tax cut to work, not a welfare style tax “rebate.”  Knowing that more than…

Palin incredibly valuable to the Conservative Cause

From the Official Sarah Palin Fan Club

By Peter Andrew ConservativeAmerican.org

Rush to the Rescue!  Rush Hudson Limbaugh was defending Sarah Palin the day before Thanksgiving on his show.  Rush was a Palin fan before there were Palin fans.  Rush picked up on what we were saying the other day about the wording used on all the Palin Turkey “butcher” stories.  Here’s the Rush Transcript from RushLimbaugh.com about Sarah Palin:

RUSH:  I saw a story that was a follow-up to Sarah Palin.  Remember they’re doing everything they can to destroy Sarah Palin out there, and there was a story. We had the video, too. She was pardoning the state turkey in Alaska, while standing in front of a guy who was slaughtering turkeys for Thanksgiving. It was a turkey farm.  The New York Times ran a story on this and referred to what was going on behind Sarah Palin as “turkey executions.” The turkeys were being executed! Now, what is a turkey for?  A turkey can’t even fly.  It’s one of the dumbest birds out there, but that’s irrelevant.  This is a turkey farm.  The turkeys are bred for one reason, ladies and gentlemen, and that’s to be consumed.  Yet Sarah Palin is standing in front of an “execution.”  Bush did his pardon of the turkey today, too.  But with Sarah Palin involved they had to describe the turkeys as being “executed.”  The correct term is slaughtered.  Tim in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  Hi.

CALLER:  Yes.  Rush.

RUSH:  Hello, sir.

CALLER:  I just want to say I’m stationed in Fort Bragg, but I’m from the reddest state, Oklahoma.

CALLER:  Okay.  My question… Well actually, before my question, I went to a McCain rally here in North Carolina, and a Palin rally, two McCain rallies and one Palin rally and there were so many more people to see Palin than there was McCain.  And she has energized in my mind the base, the conservative base, like, “Hey, this is awesome!”  And, you know, a lot of people like me — I’m 31 years old, a conservative — we’re thinking, “You know, Obama is in, but, hey, we had to go through Carter to get Reagan.”  So I’m thinking we have to go through Obama to get Palin, but my question to you is: Why are all these Republicans out there, why don’t they like her?

RUSH:  A-ha.  A-ha.  Okay, I want you to listen very carefully to this.  It’s a long answer that I’m going to try to make very brief.  In the first place, when you say, “Why don’t Republicans like her?” there’s a whole bunch of different kinds of Republicans now.  Like there’s you and me, and we’re conservative Republicans.  But we also have to deal with liberal and moderate or Rockefeller Republicans in our party.  So the party has lost its primary identity:  strong national defense, tax cuts, smaller government. It’s lost its identity.  It doesn’t believe smaller government is possible.  The Republican Party has too many people who want the government to grow.  Just spend the money on different groups of people in different ways in order to get votes.  It’s called liberalism lite.  They’re calling it redefine conservatism. Sarah Palin makes them nervous because of precisely what you cited.  She inspired and revved up a Republican Party.  But there are people in the Republican Party who don’t want it to stand for the things that she stands for.  I think her effectiveness is making her a target. The Drive-By Media and the Democrat Party are also not fond of her, and they’re doing everything they can to make her appear to be the face of the Republican Party, because they think most of the country despises her, too, based on exit polls.  You know, Barbara Walters in the interview I did with her last week asked, “You like Palin?”

I said, “I absolutely do.”  I said, “I think she was great.”  I said, “Why don’t you like her?”

What is a Conservative?

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

By Peter Andrew ConservativeAmerican.org

People toss around terms like liberal and conservative, but do we all know what these terms mean? What does a conservative American believe? What does it mean to be conservative? Why should we support conservatives?

Many people think of “conservative” as a dirty word, almost a fringe element of politics, thanks to a few goofballs in the public and a whole bunch of democrats in the media. Let’s set the record straight. Conservatives are not mean. Conservatives don’t hate other people based on race, sexual orientation or religion. Conservatives don’t want to convert everyone to Christianity or force God on anyone.

Conservatives believe things you believe. We share your values. Like you, we think the United States of America is the greatest nation on earth. So what does it mean to be conservative? Below is a list of 14 core values of conservatives. You might be surprised to learn you are a conservative afterall!

What the Conservative American believes in, values we share with you:

  • Lower taxes – on you, your neighbors and the businesses you own or work for.
  • Smaller government – not just eliminating scheduled spending increases, but finding failing and unnecessary government programs to eliminate completely, perhaps even eliminating entire federal departments. Fiscal responsibility.
  • Less Government Regulation – Government needs to find ways to help employers, not hinder their ability to succeed. Unnecessary laws should be eliminated. “Government is not the answer to our problems, government is the problem.” – Ronald Reagan
  • The Strongest Military in the World – the best people, technology, strategies and equipment providing peace through strength and wisdom. Providing security for our nation and our people.
  • Honoring the Military – most pay levels for the military are substantially out of date and too low. This is one area where the conservative American believes we should increase spending. Let’s double the pay given to our enlisted men and women, increase other wages and benefits, and take better care of our injured veterans. Let’s show these brave and unselfish people how grateful a nation can be.
  • Energy Independence – Drill for oil on US territory now. Drill off shore, just far enough where the platforms can’t be seen from the mainland. Drill in Alaska, Drill in the Gulf. Find oil right here. Mine Coal. Encourage new coal power plants with clean coal technology. We want clean air, water and land, but we don’t believe in the theory of global warming and we know that people are part of nature too. We don’t want public schools used to further political agendas like global warming and socialism. We believe in working with those who can help protect the environment, but who also realize we must use our own resources of coal and oil. Let private industry research and develop wind power, solar power and other methods of generating electricity. Let the private sector determine if there is a way to make these methods work in the USA. If so, they will proceed with these ventures.
  • A USA that is the Most Prosperous Country on Earth – a nation of people who make us an economic superpower. A nation that offers the freedom to dream your own unique dream, to act on those dreams and to enjoy the fruits of your labors, a bountiful harvest. American ingenuity, creativity and prosperity that leads to charity, and people helping each other. Free market capitalism without socialist bailouts and government meddling.
  • Freedom – Freedom is our greatest gift to each other, a treasure paid for and maintained by our military, freedom to speak our minds, to bear arms and to pursuit life, liberty and happiness.
  • Patriotism – we are free to disagree loudly on policies, decisions, laws and issues but beneath all of that is a bedrock belief in the goodness of the USA. We are not the bad guys.
  • A Free & Fair Media – we believe in a nation where various sides to an issue are heard and presented, where the media consumer is not mislead into a pre-conceived conclusion based on a political motivation and on the belief that what they have seen is “news” and therefore must be true. We believe in media as a watchdog to ensure government’s goodness without jeopardizing national security
  • Courts of, and for the People – a judicial system that does not include judges legislating from the bench and countless frivolous lawsuits. Judges appointed who will strictly interpret the Constitution and not make judgments based on other nations, Hollywood, or polling data.
  • Free & Fair Elections – national photo identification requirements, purple finger one vote for each methods, private voting free of intimidation.
  • The Sanctity of Human Life – protecting all citizens from the moment of conception until life’s natural end, eliminating abortion and protecting the elderly.
  • The Awesome Power of God – We are a proud nation with a rich history based on our Constitution. We are a nation founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs and we don’t apologize for that. It is these same beliefs that have caused us to welcome people of all faiths to join us in America where we celebrate freedom of (not freedom from) religion. We believe God has blessed the USA and has entrusted many gifts to us.

“Don’t let me miss an Open Door”

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

From the Official Sarah Palin Fan Club

It sounded very close to a “Yes!” from Sarah Palin tonight when Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren asked her about 2012.  Palin told Greta that she prays to God for help and guidance and prays, “God, don’t let me miss an open door.” She indicated a door might be open in 2012 or 2016 for her! Palin also added that if it is right for her family and her nation, then she’ll jump through that door!

“Would that be exciting?” Van Susteren asked during her exclusive interview.  Palin responded, “It would be VERY exciting!” That sounds an awful lot like a “Yes!” answer to running for President in 2012.  It was very close anyway!

Despite the McCain camp dumping on her, she… (more…)

Death of Weekly Standard

By Peter Andrew ConservativeAmerican.org

With the never-ending talk of Reagan conservatism being dead by Fred Barnes on Fox News and his pal Bill Kristol adding that there now is a sort of new conservatism that isn’t so far to the right, these two parked their magazine’s car right in the center of the political parking lot.

Newt Gingrich also quit talking about Ronald Reagan conservatism and joined this new conservative nonsense, So Bill and Fred were not alone. They all had their chance yesterday with John MaverDick McCain. Yesterday’s election results were a sound victory for Barack Obama who had moved to the center of the political lot to win the election. It also was a sound defeat for the nonsense about throwing Ronald Reagan style conservatism under the bus and going with this kinder, centrist, populist “new conservative” junk. If they leave their magazine in that parking spot, they may be in for some bad circulation news. (more…)

Palin just like Reagan

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

By Peter Andrew

“Two great tastes that taste great together!”

Sarah Palin reminded us last night of someone. It took a mere second to realize who; Ronald Reagan. Palin was not afraid of criticism and faced it head on with a smile, just like Reagan did. Palin spoke to mid-America not coastal liberals, just like Reagan . She spoke with intelligence AND using words all can understand, just like Reagan . She took a huge political risk (especially for a newcomer to the national stage) and improvised on her speech, just like Reagan would do. When she noticed the Hockey Moms for Palin signs, she interrupted her talk and joked that the only difference between a Hockey Mom and Pit Bull was lipstick! The crowd loved it. She showed we don’t always have to be so serious, we can take time to laugh. She was proud of how great America is, just like Reagan. She saw a future where America could be even greater, just like Reagan. She stood up for conservative values like smaller government, lower taxes, state’s rights, the right to life, and more… just like Reagan did.

John McCain likes to say he was pals with Reagan. I met the late US Senator Lloyd Bentsen once. Stealing his famous words, Mr. McCain, you’re no Ronald Reagan. I have to give him credit though for picking Sarah Palin even if he did do it just to get the donations coming in and to energize conservatives like us.

I was worried John McCain would kill conservatism completely if he won. She won’t let him. She seemed to invent a new conservatism last night. People down the line will be called “Palin Conservatives.” Her comments hinted at a caring (I won’t say ‘compassionate’) conservative, the same kind of values held by most Americans. Soon there will be another group of people we hear about (just like Reagan did) called “Palin Democrats.”

She electrified the GOP and gave the democrat-socialists pause to think about the man they have nominated.

She appealed to, and excited all women (regardless of party) who have ever had a child or looked at a small child with a twinkle in their eye. We have all noticed how pro-abortion, pro-“choice” women seem to have faces that show anger, pain, hatred, discomfort and the tired lines of a difficult life, the lines of a woman who appears older than she actually is. We also notice how pro-life, anti-abortion women who thank God for the sanctity of human life seem to have faces that show happiness, laughter, love, joy and the softness of someone you want a hug from. Sarah Palin has that face. It’s a winning face and it could someday be the face of the first female president of the United States.
