Female Fallen Soldier

Simone Robinson[/caption] We owe an apology to the family of the late Army Specialist, Simone A. Robinson, of Dixmoor, Illinois.  We incorrectly reported earlier that the tragic passing of a different female soldier was the first death of a military woman under the new administration of President Obama.  That report about Jessica Sarandrea was not correct. We regret the error and send our sincere apologies to all who knew and loved both Jessica Sarandrea and Simone Robinson. It was in fact Army Spc. Simone A. Robinson, 21, of Dixmoor, Ill., who was the first military woman to die under the new administration.  She died March 1, 2009 at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near her security post on Jan. 17 in Kabul, Afghanistan. She was assigned to the 634th Brigade Support Battalion of the Illinois Army National Guard, Crestwood, Ill. We pay tribute to her and her sacrifice here.  Along with all of the soldiers who have given their lives for this great nation, Simone is a hero. To see the entire list of soldiers who have died since January 20th, click here. Our thanks to “Martylafl,” another female soldier, for pointing out this error and allowing us to correct it.
